Synopsis:
This useful book consists of three parts: first a Sherpa-English-Nepali dictionary, next an English-Sherpa dictionary, and finally a Nepali-Sherpa dictionary. The introductory chapters provide background on the Sherpa people and the Sherpa langauge and script.
The Sherpas (renowned in modern times as Nepalese mountaineering guides) are originally of Tibetan origin and cultural affinities. They migrated from Kham and Eastern Tibet in several waves in the 16th and 18th centuries, and settled in the present Solukhumbu area of Nepal, south of the Himalaya, near Mt.Jomolangma (better known to us as Mount Everest).
