In Tibetan buddhism, the Garuda personifies certain wrathful forms of Padmasambhava, and in the terma, he is venerated as a guardian of treasures. As a deity, Garuda is strongly associated with Vajrapani and Hayagriva. As such, he is highly effective for removing obstavles and illnesses, especially naga related afflictions such as kidney failure, plague and cancer.
