Buddha Shakyamuni lived about 2500 years ago. He discovered the truth about life and with it, the solution to suffering and the answers on how to be happy. He shared these insights with everyone interested and taught them the practice of meditation. This is depicted by the position of the hands in this statue, also known as the meditation mudra (mudra = hand gesture).
